The Faculty of Technology at Intracom University has reached an important research milestone. The paper “A Novel Fusion Ranking Multi-Query Method for Image Retrieval and its Application in Skin Disease Diagnosis” has been accepted for publication in an international Scopus-indexed journal. The achievement demonstrates the University’s growing research capabilities in medical artificial intelligence and creates new opportunities to apply AI in healthcare.
The study was conducted by Dr. Ngo Hoang Huy, Dean of the Faculty of Technology, and an inter-university research team. It proposes Fusion Ranking Multi-Query (FRMQ), an advanced method that improves medical image retrieval by combining data from multiple query images.
FRMQ builds on Efficient Manifold Ranking (EMR) and integrates hybrid features that combine conventional low-level characteristics with the modern EfficientNet deep-learning model. This allows the system to analyze image characteristics more thoroughly and improve the accuracy of AI-assisted skin disease diagnosis.
In tests on the Dermnet dataset, which contains more than 5,888 images across 23 disease categories, FRMQ achieved 89.25% mAP—between 4% and 18% higher than conventional single-query-image methods. The result highlights the algorithm’s strong potential for intelligent healthcare systems.
This achievement continues nine years of in-depth research by Dr. Ngo Hoang Huy and his doctoral researchers in image retrieval, representation learning, and intelligent recommendation systems. It confirms the Faculty’s research strength, supports scientific development at Intracom University, and inspires students to participate in advanced projects applying AI to medicine and other fields.
To share the findings and introduce their practical applications, the Faculty of Technology will organize an open scientific seminar titled “AI-Assisted Image Retrieval and Disease Diagnosis.” Experts will discuss AI methods and models for diagnostic imaging, research combining medical images with clinical text in multimodal systems, and opportunities for interested students to join research projects, internships, and doctoral study in artificial intelligence and biomedicine.
